Bio
Born in 1967 Tehran-Iran, Niusha Shirvani plays and teaches Tar & Setar in classical Persian Music. Radio was the first source through which Niusha was able to hear classical Persian music; however ‘Chavosh’ ensemble recordings are the ones he can clearly remember from his childhood. Niusha first came across the Tar listening to Houshang Zarif.
Niusha Shirvani’s music life began in 1995 playing Tar with Amir Naderzadeh who later referred him to Hossein Alizadeh as one of his best student. Hossein walked him through the intermediate stages and later with Fariborz Azizi, he advanced his Tar playing techniques as well as developing his knowledge on classical Persian music theory/Radif. He moved on to Mohammad Reza Lotfi to play Radif on Tar and developing his improvisation skills. His passion for music led him to Houshang Ostovar where he studied Western classical music theory and harmony.
Niusha as a band leader in ‘Nima’ Trio with ‘Bijan Meyssami’ and ‘Peyman Mohassel’ conducted several successful performances at Canadian and Iranian festivals and events. He also completed ‘Digital Audio Recording Certificate’ at SAIT- Canada.
Niusha is a member of AFM (American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada) - Local Calgary, Alberta Branch - CMA (Calgary Musician Association)
Living in Canada (Calgary, Alberta), Niusha is busy with teaching Tar and Setar while composing several pieces in Persian music for Tar.
